The Seventh Seal - Criterion #11

The Seventh Seal (1957) dir. Ingmar Bergman | DP. Gunnar Fischer

I see them, Mia. Over there, against the stormy sky. They’re all there. The smith and Lisa, the knight, Raval, Jons and Skat. And Death, the strict master, bids them dance. He commands them to hold hands and dance in a long line. At the head goes the stern master with his scythe and hourglass. But Skat the fool brings up the rear with his lute. They dance away from the dawn, a solemn dance, away towards the dark lands, while the rain washes from their cheeks the salt of their bitter tears.
